About us
Our purpose is a future where waste is not a problem - but a valuable resource.
Exchange for Change (EfC) is a trusted partner working closely with government, industry and communities to deliver the NSW and ACT container deposit schemes and strong environmental, social and economic benefits for our communities.
EfC was established in 2017 as a joint venture between Asahi Holdings (Australia) Pty Ltd, Coca-Cola Amatil (Aust) Pty Ltd, Coopers Brewery Limited, CUB Pty Ltd and Lion Pty Ltd, who combined have years of experience in container deposit schemes around the world.
As the government-appointed scheme coordinator for the NSW and ACT container deposit schemes, we manage the financial operations of the schemes including collecting contributions from beverage suppliers and distributing funds to our network operators.
We develop and implement award-winning marketing and community education strategies that change behaviour while ensuring scheme integrity through audit and risk management.
Today, our schemes serve as examples of successful sustainable practices, contributing significantly to the circular economies of NSW and the ACT. In NSW alone, eight in 10 adults have participated in Return and Earn with billions of drink containers returned for recycling every year.
Our Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) is an important first step in our reconciliation journey. It outlines how we will build understanding, strengthen relationships and take meaningful action. As an organisation focused on improving recycling rates and reducing litter, we recognise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as custodians of Country. We are committed to learning from and working with First Nations communities to support better environmental, social and economic outcomes.
Our Reflect RAP provides a framework across four key areas—Relationships, Respect, Opportunities and Governance—helping us to embed reconciliation into how we operate and engage with our partners and communities. This is the beginning of our journey, with a focus on listening, learning and building strong foundations for future action.
Exchange for Change commissioned Aboriginal artist group, Dalmarri to create a beautiful, bespoke artwork to visually represent our Reflect RAP journey.
